Parts of confessions made by detained spies to be broadcast soon

 IRNA

Tehran, May 25, IRNA – Minister of Information (Intelligence) Heidar Moslehi announced Wednesday that parts of confessions made by members of the busted espionage network would be broadcast soon.

“Their fates will become clear soon,” Moslehi told reporters on the sidelines of today’s cabinet session.

On May 21, Iran’s Information Ministry announced that it has identified and eliminated a complicated espionage and sabotage network related to the CIA.

Members of the network “were to sabotage activities in the fields of Iran’s peaceful nuclear programs, gas and oil industries and the country’s Ministry of Energy,” Moslehi said.

He added that the network was also to find access to 'a series of softwares related to different organizations.”

Last Saturday, the ministry’s public relations office said in a statement that Iran's intelligence forces inside and outside the country have succeeded to identify and completely destroy the network which was “affiliated to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).”

The network was “established by a number of leading CIA members” in some of world countries, said the statement.

It added that the US-related espionage network was working as the so-called job-finding centers attracting Iranian civilians to cooperate with them by promising them job and education opportunities.

'CIA did not achieve goals in Iran'

PressTV

Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi
talks to reporters after a cabinet meeting on Sunday.

Heidar Moslehi told Press TV on Sunday that the ministry managed to bust the CIA espionage network with the cooperation of the Iranian people, IRNA reported.

He said that the ministry's proper planning prevented the spy network to achieve its goals, adding, “The most important outcome of our operation was that the United States did not accomplish its objectives in the Islamic Republic.”

The Islamic Republic announced on Saturday that 30 individual have been arrested on charges of sabotage and spying for the US and 42 CIA operatives were identified in connection with the network.

The Iranian intelligence minister stated that the spy-ring was directly taking orders from the CIA, saying that it was headed and operated by top field agents working for the US spy agency.

According to a statement issued by Iran's Intelligence Ministry on Saturday, the network, which was set up by a considerable number of seasoned CIA operatives in several countries, attempted to trick citizens into spying for them under the guise of issuing visa, helping with permanent residency, and making job and study offers.

The CIA operatives had gathered information from "universities and scientific research centers, and in the field of nuclear energy, aerospace, defense and biotechnology industries," part of the statement read.

The spies had also gathered detailed information about the "oil and gas pipelines, telecommunication and electricity networks, airports and customs, the security of the banking and communication systems," by using "US embassies and consulates in several countries particularly "the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Malaysia."

'Bin Laden dead long before US raid'

Iran's Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi
Iran's intelligence minister says the country has reliable information that former head of the al-Qaeda terrorist group Osama bin Laden died of disease some time ago.

“We have accurate information that bin Laden died of illness some time ago,” Heidar Moslehi told reporters on the sidelines of a Cabinet meeting on Sunday.

He questioned Washington's claim that bin Laden was killed by American troops in a hiding compound in Pakistan on May 1.

“If the US military and intelligence apparatus have really arrested or killed bin Laden, why don't they show him (his dead body) why have they thrown his corpse into the sea?” Moslehi asked.

“When we apprehended [former Jundallah ringleader Abdul Malik] Rigi, we showed him and also aired his interview,” ISNA quoted the intelligence chief as saying.

By releasing such false news, he said, the White House seeks to overshadow regional awakening.

Moslehi said US officials resort to such PR campaigns to divert attention from their domestic problems as well as their “fragile” economic situation.

US President Barack Obama claimed that Osama bin Laden was killed by US forces on May 1 in a hiding compound in Pakistan.

A US official later announced that bin Laden's body was abruptly buried at sea, falsely boasting that his hasty burial was in accordance with the Islamic law, requiring burial within 24 hours of death.

However, burial at sea is not an Islamic practice and Islam does not have a timeframe for burial.

US officials also claimed their decision for a sea burial was made because no country would accept bin Laden's remains, without elaborating on which countries were actually contacted on the matter.

Analysts, however, have raised serious questions as to why US officials did not allow for the application of a DNA test to officially confirm the identity of the corpse before its hasty burial.
