Venezuela’s Chavez Proposes Talks Between Libyan Rebels, Govt.

News Americas, Caracas, Venezuela, Weds. April 27, 2011: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says talks between Libyan rebels and the Muammar Gaddafi government could help resolve the current crisis there.

Chavez said Tuesday that a delegation of Libyan officials is in Venezuela to seek ways to end the conflict in their nation and he is hoping to garner support for a peaceful solution.

Speaking during a meeting of Latin America and Caribbean foreign ministers President Chavez said he was determined to find “a political solution to the drama the Libyan people were living.”

Chavez is a close ally of Gaddafi and has condemned what he called the “indiscriminate bombing” of Libya. His comments come a day after a NATO airstrike damaged Gaddafi’s compound in Tripoli .

“We’ve had enough abuse, wars and invasions directed against third world countries,” President Chavez said.
